Tamworth Volleyball Club was established over 25 years ago and now operates five competitive teams. Having just begun its own junior development programme and with an Academy now established in conjunction with Sutton Coldfield College, no other team in the region is able to offer such a wide range of playing opportunities.

Men's A, Tamworth Storm, in West Midlands Division 2 while Men's B, Tamworth Thunder, in the Leicester League. TSC Cyclones play in West Midlands Division 3, featuring current Tamworth players alongside the more promising Sutton students. The ladies team, Tamworth Lightning, competes in Division 1 of the West Midlands ladies’ league. The team line-up is completed by the mixed side, Tamworth Tornadoes, which competes in the Leicester League’s mixed division.

Tamworth Volleyball Club has taken its place at the forefront of volleyball development in England after it received its official Volley 1 accreditation from the sport’s governing body, Volleyball England.

With the Olympics less than four years away, many sports are cranking up their efforts to professionalise activities at the grass roots level. In the case of volleyball, this is done via the Volley 1-2-3 scheme with clubs invited to work their way up from Volley 1 to Volley 3. Each level demonstrates a club’s commitment to - amongst other things - junior development, a playing programme, club management, child protection and sports ethics.

Tamworth now becomes the 37th English club to gain its Volley 1 accreditation. With a base of 700 clubs currently active, this places Tamworth in the top 5% of clubs across the country.
