Fri Mar 12th, PVC v Tornaodes; Sun Mar 14th - training as usual at Rawlett

Tamworth Volleyball Club was established over 25 years ago and now operates five competitive teams. Having just begun its own junior development programme and with an Academy now established in conjunction with Sutton Coldfield College, no other team in the region is able to offer such a wide range of playing opportunities.

For the 2009/010 season, the men's A team, Tamworth Storm, is back in West Midlands Division 1 after a two year absence. The B team, Tamworth Thunder, will play their fifth season in the Leicester League and will do so as defending champions. Both teams will take part in the West Midlands Cup Competition.

As the result of the partnership established in 2008 with Sutton Coldfield College, a third men's team, TSC Cyclones, will play in West Midlands Division 2, featuring current Tamworth players alongside the more promising Sutton students.

The ladies team, which plays under the name of Tamworth Lightning, competes in Division 1 of the West Midlands ladies’ league and is arguably the club's current flagship side. Having won the West Midlands Cup in 2007, they followed that up by being crowned League Champions in 2008. In fact, in the past five seasons, they have only once finished outside of the top two league positions.

The team line-up is completed by the mixed side, Tamworth Tornadoes, which has now completed four seasons in the Leicester League’s mixed division, claiming the league title for the first time in 2008.

Training takes place on Sundays at Rawlett Community Sports College with home matches being played at Wilnecote School on Tuesdays. Additional specialist training is laid on at Sutton College on Thursday evenings.

Although the club runs five competitive league sides, players of all standards and all ages are welcome. Players currently within the club range from teenagers to 50 year olds, with playing standards ranging from complete beginners right up to National League. However, no matter how competitive the League action may become, the focus always remains on providing an enjoyable standard of volleyball for all-comers. As a sport, volleyball is an excellent form of aerobic exercise - and one which is sheltered indoors from the worst effects of the British winter so feel free to come along and join in!

Tamworth volleyballers enjoy bright January despite Storm stumble

Tamworth Volleyball Club has enjoyed a bright start to 2010 with several of their teams still in the running for league honours. The only blip during an otherwise happy January for TVC has been the slight drop in form of men’s ‘A’ team Tamworth Storm who fell to consecutive 3-2 defeats at the hands of the University sides from Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
